I am completely old fashioned when it comes to a woman taking her husband’s last name. I know it doesn’t make sense for everyone, but it’s the right thing for me, and I’ve always felt strongly about it. I am changing my name to Kate Wagner after the wedding, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I haven’t felt like a Lidgett in months and being called Kate Lidgett already feels foreign to me. I will always be a Lidgett, but I love the idea of having the same last name as Eric and our pets. Eric is my family now and even if his last name was Hairybutts, I would happily be Kate Hairybutts. Sure, I’d probably just use my initials a lot, but I would still do it. I thought I would feel some sort of sadness losing my last name, but I honestly just feel a lot of excitement about becoming Kate Wagner.

Plus, if I have to hear one more “too legit to quit” joke…I’m going to puke.
