Des Moines is my favorite place on earth. Everyone is always trying to leave Des Moines after college for a big city, but I wouldn’t rather be anywhere else. All of my friends have moved away, but I know they will be back. I’m talking to you Jordan, Lexi, Mandy, Emily, Abbie. You’ll all be back.
I’m so proud of all my friends for having big dreams and being adventurous, but I am happy here, and I wouldn’t want to change that for traffic jams and not seeing familar faces everywhere I go. For me, Des Moines is a big city when I want it to be and it’s a small town when I need it to be. Sure, we’ve got some mullets and some socks with sandals in the area, but you only have to run into them once a year at the Iowa State Fair.
I promise that when all my friends move back to Des Moines because they realize they need their parents for free babysitters, I won’t say I told them so. I’ll just invite myself over to their new house in Des Moines and drink all their beer.
Can’t wait.
I seriously thought about this post when I got woken up by screaming homeless people at 4am last night!
Hey! I know we never hung out or ever talked in high school, but I just moved back to DSM from NYC. I’d love an eating or drinking buddy if you want one…I dont judge portion size (I’m a total fat kid). I saw your twitter when looking for more people to follow in Des Moines. I hope you don’t mind. Your blog is great. It’s always good to read an honest blog post. If you’re up for a huge burger or massive margaritas, let me know (@katiegarton).
