I Wouldn’t Lie to You

Kate Middleton gets it.

When I’m not thinking about babies 76.9% of the time, I’m usually thinking about what I’m going to wear tomorrow and if I can still fit into it. I recently started a personal shopping business because I am a firm believer that what you wear does matter. As much as people don’t want clothes to matter because they only want what is on the “inside” to matter, I’m here to break the news:

Clothes matter.

Clothes can either be a gateway or a huge brick wall when you meet someone for the first time. Of course, what’s on the inside of a person does matter, but no one will want to get to know the inside of you if you’re dressed like you belong in a psych ward. So please do not email me after this post and say that only the heart of someone really matters.

I know.

But that’s not what I’m talking about today.

So don’t.

When it comes to first impressions (and every impression after that), sometimes your clothes are going to have to speak for you so what do you want your clothes to say about you? Do you want them to say you can run a company or do you want them to say you didn’t care enough about this job interview to wear matching socks? I honestly don’t believe clothing is materialistic because it’s just another form of expressing who you truly are, and there is nothing wrong with that. If someone has ever told you that they don’t judge other people by what they are wearing, they are lying to you.

And they probably didn’t like your outfit.

Below are a few of my personal fashion tips:

  • When in doubt, wear navy and white stripes. Have you ever not liked someone in navy and white stripes?
  • It’s better to be overdressed than under dressed.
  • Be comfortable, but not like poncho and Uggs comfortable.
  • You can show boobs or legs but not both at the same time.
  • Stand in front of the mirror after you get dressed and ask yourself what your outfit is saying about you today. If it’s saying that you were confused about whether you were getting ready for bed or for work…you should change.
  • Wear one personal item everyday, like a necklace from your Dad or jeans from college you can’t throw away.

When you dress better, you do better.

Don’t fight me on this, people. I wouldn’t lie to you.

I’m judging you and I don’t like your outfit.
